I offer Play Therapy for children aged 3- 14 years. I work with families who are seeking extra help for their child who have problems that affect how they feel, act or learn.
Seeing a child in your care who is hurting inside can be very distressing for those who wish only to help. As parents/carers, we wish to keep our children emotionally and physically safe and, at times, extra support can help them to reduce unwanted worries or fears so that they can thrive.
What do I do?
In therapy, children use their time each week to play out or talk through issues that are most important to them. I offer children a safe space to express their worries, to help them understand their needs and feelings so that they can cope better/ communicate better outside of the therapy room
I specialise in children's feelings of anger and frustration. Anger can impact a great deal on the way a child acts at home and school. Children often find it extremely difficult to talk about such strong feelings. Maybe you child shows:
- verbal/physical aggression towards you and/or others
- Withdrawn behaviour
- friendship/ peer difficulties
There are a variety of symptoms that may be presented and whatever your concern, I can help your child to overcome their problem.
How can I help?
- I will help your child feel better about her/himself, to value her/himself and to feel stronger inside
- I will help your child to feel happier and comfortable with her/himself
- I will help your child to control his/her anger and frustration- to be more accepting of his/her environment and the people around him/her.
- I will help your child to strengthen his/her relationship with important people in his/her life
Who am I?
I am Sue, an Accredited Play Therapist. I specialise in children’s use of play to facilitate communication, helping them to reduce their frustration and anger issues. I believe that children naturally want to do well in their lives and I believe that, some times, unwanted feelings and thoughts block their chance to thrive. I can help your child work through and make sense of their muddles and worries in the safety of the therapy room.
As an experienced practitioner, I currently work along side classroom staff in primary schools where I have built trusting relationships to help children manage their social/emotional and behavioural issues. I work closely with parents/carers also in schools.I am passionate about strengthening relationships between a child and their parents/carers to reduce conflict and pressure upon family life.
What happens next?
Talking through worries and concerns can be so helpful when things seem helpless. I will offer you my full attention to help you decide whether or not Play Therapy is the most suitable method of extra support for your child.
Initially, I will meet you and your child to talk. I will listen to your concerns- this will help me learn more about your child and their difficulties. I can then tell you more about how I can help.
